Gianni Infantino, the president of FIFA, has hinted that the organization is considering issuing its own cryptocurrency token. Infantino presented FIFA’s plan to leverage blockchain technology to reach its enormous global audience during his speech at President Trump’s White House Crypto Summit on March 7.

During the event, Infantino stood alongside Trump and expressed FIFA’s ambition to create a digital currency that could reshape how fans engage with the sport. He stated, “FIFA is very, very interested to develop a FIFA coin, to do it from here, from America, and to conquer the 5 billion soccer fans in the world.”

He also invited potential collaborators to join the initiative, emphasizing the organization’s global influence. Trump responded enthusiastically, adding, “That coin may be worth more than FIFA in the end. It could be quite a coin, actually.”

A Step Toward a Digital Future

Although Infantino did not provide a specific timeline or technical details, his remarks suggest FIFA is actively considering blockchain as a tool for fan engagement and revenue generation.

The announcement coincides with the global adoption of digital assets by sporting groups. FIFA may view the next 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be co-hosted by the US, Canada, and Mexico, as a great chance to implement a digital currency that improves communication with its worldwide fan base.

This action demonstrates the increasing influence of cryptocurrencies in the sports sector, even if FIFA has not yet confirmed any formal plans. Fans’ interactions with the game, from buying items to attending exclusive events, could be altered if a FIFA token is created.
