FanDuel sportsbook has forged a new partnership with former NBA star and current coach Randy Livingston and his wife, sports agent Anita Smith. This collaboration aims to promote responsible gambling awareness during Responsible Gaming Education Month this September.
The initiative, called “Trusted Voices: Conversations About Betting,” will offer educational materials, including a video series that focuses on the dangers of underage gambling. The series will also cover the importance of having informed discussions about gambling and how to seek help if needed.
In the video series, Livingston and Smith recount Livingston’s journey from a highly acclaimed prep basketball player to an NBA career, while also grappling with gambling issues. Livingston shares his initial encounters with gambling, his “rock-bottom” experience, and his recovery journey with Smith’s support.
Livingston expressed his motivation for the program, saying, “As legal sports betting continues to become more accessible, I knew I wanted to use my experience to help families engage in proactive and informed conversations about gambling.” He added that both he and Anita recognize FanDuel’s commitment to aiding parents in navigating these crucial discussions.
Alison Kutler, FanDuel’s VP of Responsible Gaming and Community Impact, explained the company’s enthusiasm for this partnership. “Randy and Anita have an incredible story and a desire to help others,” Kutler said. “We are excited to expand our advocacy program to raise awareness of the importance of having early and informed family conversations about gambling and the associated risks.”
The new program will provide resources and tools for trusted adults—parents, guardians, and coaches—to educate young people about gambling risks, recognize warning signs, and find support. FanDuel aims to set a high standard for responsible gaming practices and is excited about the contribution Livingston and Smith will make as part of their Responsible Gaming (RG) ambassador team.
Livingston and Smith hope their personal experiences will assist others facing similar challenges. They have developed resources to help individuals understand the risks of gambling, identify warning signs, and foster conversations within families about gambling-related issues.
