In December 2024, Colorado’s sports betting industry saw $648.4 million in wagers, a 9.5% decrease from the same month in 2023. Nonetheless, the monthly total increased by 0.1%, indicating a minor improvement over November. With $166.8 million in wagers, football continued to be the most popular sport, followed by basketball with $138.2 million. With $166.6 million in contributions, parlays and combination bets demonstrated their ongoing appeal to bettors.
Retail sportsbooks in Colorado generated nearly $4.4 million in bets for December, but the vast majority—$644.1 million—came from online platforms. The convenience of mobile betting continues to drive the state’s market, reflecting broader industry trends.
Gross gaming revenue for December totaled just over $29.8 million, with online sportsbooks contributing nearly all of it at $29.9 million. However, retail sports betting reported a loss of $39,800. Despite the year-over-year decline in handle, Colorado’s fiscal year-to-date (FYTD) betting volume showed a 5.8% increase compared to the previous period, reaching nearly $3.2 billion.
Additionally, the Colorado Division of Gaming (CDG) reported that its net sports betting earnings for the month of December topped $14.5 million. These monies support infrastructure and water conservation initiatives in the state, thereby enhancing the financial gains from regulated sports betting.
The long-term trend indicates consistent growth in Colorado’s sports betting market, especially in the internet sector, even though the December data shows a dip from 2023. The market is still robust going into 2025 because basketball and football continue to generate involvement.
