The Brazilian Football Confederation confirmed a new technological framework for domestic football, establishing a partnership with Genius Sports to introduce semi automatic offside technology across national competitions beginning in 2026. The agreement places Brazil among the countries adopting advanced officiating systems used in leading international tournaments.

Under the partnership, Genius Sports will control the entire semi automatic offside technology network, but its responsibilities extend far beyond detecting offside positions. The company will implement a full ecosystem that monitors player movement, referee location and ball tracking in real time. Data will integrate directly into the federation technology environment already in place.
The ecosystem includes a tactical analysis platform tailored for officiating teams and performance departments. The tools allow match officials to review sequences with detailed movement maps and help technical staff analyse team structure, spacing and transitions.
CBF President Samir Xaud said the project reflects an ongoing effort to strengthen trust in domestic officiating.
“This move aligns with the most advanced practices in world football and CBF will continue working to ensure that our competitions are a benchmark for quality and fairness,” he says.
Every participating venue will be fitted with 24 specialised cameras placed at elevated angles to ensure full-pitch coverage. An independent server dedicated to processing match data will also be installed in each stadium. That structure is designed to increase the speed of automated calculations and reduce technical discrepancies during key decisions.
The technology mirrors systems already deployed in major international competitions, where semi automatic offside reviews rely on advanced limb-tracking models to produce fast and transparent judgments.
Netto Góes, president of the CBF Arbitration Working Group, noted that the partnership represents a fundamental step in updating the national refereeing model. He highlighted that a fully auditable system aligned with FIFA technical standards will contribute to better decision-making and reinforce fairness across competitions.
Clubs are expected to see measurable benefits, including fewer replay delays, greater predictability during match reviews and a reduction in subjective errors. Fans and league partners also gain from more consistent officiating at a time when high-definition broadcast coverage increases scrutiny on every call.
Implementation begins in 2026 across Serie A and cup competitions.
