AGA Predicts Record-Breaking Wagers for Super Bowl LVIII

Share

Before Super Bowl LVIII, the American Gaming Association (AGA) revealed the results of its most recent study, which included startling predictions for the amount of money that will be wagered on the game. It is projected that 68 million Americans, or an astounding 26% of the adult population in the United States, will bet a whopping $23.1 billion on the much awaited Big Game.

This prediction represents a significant increase above the $16 billion in Super Bowl wagers made by Americans last year. The main reason for the increase in numbers is that more states are starting to legalize sports betting.

Shift Towards Online Wagering

Based on a comprehensive sample size of 2,204 adults, the AGA’s survey suggests that 42.7 million American adults are likely to engage in traditional sports betting activities online, at retail sportsbooks, or through bookies—a notable 41% increase from 2023. Additionally, 36.5 million individuals plan to participate in casual betting with friends or as part of pools or squares contests, representing a 32% uptick from the previous year.

The AGA also notes that an increasing number of bettors are choosing regulated sports betting companies; 28.7 million adults, or 11% of the adult population, plan to wager through regulated US sportsbooks.

In the face of the increased interest in wagering, AGA President and CEO Bill Miller emphasized the need of player protection. Miller highlighted that in order to protect customers, the AGA will always invest in instruments for responsible gaming.

Miller will talk about the status of sports betting in the US and promote safer gambling habits with Fox Sports Big Noon Kickoff presenter Mark Ingram II, a former NFL player. This conversation will take place during Super Bowl week. Ingram talked about how happy he was to be working with the AGA and stressed the value of responsible gambling when enjoying sports.
