William Hill, Doncaster Racecourse, and Arena Racing Company (ARC) have confirmed a renewed collaboration for the 2024 William Hill Futurity Trophy. William Hill is returning to a race they first supported in 1976 with this sponsorship, which is scheduled for Saturday, October 26.
The British Flat season culminates with the William Hill Futurity Trophy, which attracts the best two-year-olds from both Britain and Ireland. The race, which is well-known for its competitive mile, has produced winners in the past, such as Auguste Rodin, who won in 2022 and went on to win the Irish Champion Stakes, Epsom Derby, and Irish Derby.
Other recent winners, like Magna Grecia (2018) and Kameko (2019), went on to success in the QIPCO 2000 Guineas at Newmarket, highlighting the Futurity Trophy’s role as a springboard for future stars. Aidan O’Brien, who has claimed the trophy 11 times, is once again a favorite with The Lion in Winter, currently leading the betting at 7/2.
David Leyden Dunbar, ARC’s Director of Commercial Strategy & Partnerships, expressed excitement about the renewed partnership, stating, “William Hill have a long association with Doncaster Racecourse and the Futurity Trophy in particular, so we are delighted to welcome them back to the race. Recent years have proven it a fantastic opportunity for some of the UK and Ireland’s best two-year-olds, and we look forward to another excellent renewal in October.”
William Hill’s involvement extends beyond flat racing, with the bookmaker also sponsoring the season opener at Cheltenham on the same weekend. Mark Walton, William Hill’s Racing Sponsorship Manager, emphasized the significance of the partnership: “We are delighted to become the sponsors of the Group 1 William Hill Futurity Stakes, strengthening our relationship with Arena Racing Company as the curtain falls on the 2024 Flat season.”
Walton also highlighted the historic link between William Hill and the race: “It’s fantastic to once again be associated with such a prestigious event, the final Group 1 of the British Flat campaign, made more special by the fact that William Hill were the sponsors of the race when it became the Futurity back in 1976.”
William Hill’s continued commitment to promoting both flat and jump racing is demonstrated by its sponsorship of this prestigious event. All eyes will be on Doncaster as the racing season comes to an end to witness which two-year-old will take home the Futurity Trophy and perhaps go on to become the next big thing in the racing world.
