UK Gambling Commission Flags Football Clubs Over Sponsorship Deals

Share

Everton, Nottingham Forest, and Leicester City have received warnings from the UK Gambling Commission for their sponsorship deals with gambling platforms that are not licensed in Britain. The regulator told the clubs that promoting these sites could lead to penalties, including fines or jail time.

The issue stems from sponsorship agreements with Stake.com, Kaiyun, and BC Game, which are linked to gambling sites accessible in the UK. Everton features Stake.com as its main shirt sponsor, while Nottingham Forest and Leicester City have partnerships with Kaiyun and BC Game.

Concerns escalated after the commission decided to revoke the license for Stake.uk.com, an online betting platform operated by TGP Europe Ltd. The company will shut down the site by next month and has already stopped accepting new registrations. The commission stated that clubs must ensure they are not promoting gambling sites that UK users can access.

“Clubs will be expected to carry out sufficient due diligence to assure the Commission that consumers cannot transact with the sites from Great Britain by any means,” the regulator stated.

BC Game has already announced it is winding down operations in the UK and has restricted new sign-ups. Meanwhile, TGP Europe Ltd will fully exit the UK market by March 11, removing links to Stake’s primary website.

The commission’s investigation gained momentum after a widely shared video on social media showed the Stake-branded logo next to an adult actress near Nottingham Trent University.

Premier League teams have already agreed to remove gambling sponsors from the front of their shirts by the 2026-27 season. However, these recent developments highlight the growing regulatory pressure around betting sponsorships in football.
