Susan Speckert will formally begin serving as the Kentucky Horse Racing and Gaming Corporation’s (KHRGC) chief operating officer on August 19. The KHRGC, which is in charge of overseeing Kentucky’s expanding sports betting industry, is experiencing a momentous occasion with this appointment.
When sportsbooks started taking bets in September of last year, Kentucky’s transition to regulated sports betting got underway. The Kentucky Horse Racing Commission has turned over its regulatory responsibilities to the KHRGC as of July 1. The hiring of Speckert is considered a critical step toward guaranteeing efficient management and continued growth of the state’s regulated sports betting market.
Susan Speckert, who was named KHRGC’s inaugural COO on Tuesday, brings extensive experience to her new role. KHRGC President & CEO Jamie Eads highlighted Speckert’s deep-rooted knowledge of the horse racing industry, noting, “Susan’s commitment to and knowledge of the horse racing industry is well known. Her professional experience makes her uniquely qualified to serve as the KHRGC’s first COO.”
Speckert’s previous roles include serving as General Counsel for the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission and most recently as the Commissioner of Law for the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government. Her career trajectory underscores her profound expertise and dedication to the sector.
