The US Supreme Court has rejected a challenge to the agreement that gave the Seminole Tribe exclusive rights to operate online sports betting in Florida.
Three years ago, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed a compact with the Seminole Tribe, granting them exclusive rights for casino and sports betting operations on reservations.
The Tribe launched online sports betting in November 2021, despite legal challenges. The Florida Supreme Court ruled in favor of the Tribe in March, regarding the online sports betting compact.
In November last year, the Tribe reintroduced its Florida sports betting app, despite ongoing legal challenges against its legitimacy.
Opponents argue the compact grants the Seminole Tribe a sports betting monopoly, questioning the legality of online sports bets placed from any location.
They claim online sports betting isn’t prohibited by the state constitution’s amendment on expanding casino gambling outside Tribal land.
This ruling marks another setback for opponents challenging the Seminole Tribe’s exclusive rights in Florida.
