Super Bowl Betting Expected to Hit $1.39 Billion, Says AGA

Share

According to the American Gaming Association (AGA), there will be $1.39 billion in legal bets on this year’s Super Bowl. There will likely be a lot of betting activity during the Kansas City Chiefs vs. Philadelphia Eagles championship game. However, because of a change in methodology, this estimate is less than the $23.1 billion forecast from the previous year.

Informal bets, such those made on unregulated websites and among friends, were previously covered by the AGA. This year, only legitimate sports betting in regulated U.S. jurisdictions is included in the computation. A more realistic view of the legal market is ensured by the new strategy, which is based on past revenue data and industry patterns.

AGA Highlights Growth of Legal Sports Betting

Despite the lower estimate, the AGA believes this year’s Super Bowl will set a new record for legal betting. AGA President and CEO Bill Miller emphasized the industry’s positive impact. “No single event unites sports fans like the Super Bowl, and that excitement extends to sports betting, with this year’s record legal handle reflecting its widespread appeal,” Miller said.

He added, “This figure underscores the positive impact of the legal market—from protecting consumers to generating tax revenue that benefits communities across the country—while enhancing the game experience for all.”

Supporting this projection, GeoComply data shows a 20.2% increase in active sports betting accounts throughout the 2024-25 NFL season. This growth suggests that more bettors are shifting to legal platforms, reinforcing the AGA’s confidence in the industry’s expansion.

With the Super Bowl set to drive record-breaking legal wagers, the AGA continues to advocate for regulated sports betting as a safer and more transparent alternative to illegal markets.
