The Saskatchewan Indian Gaming Authority (SIGA), the only organization authorized to offer online sports betting in the province, saw a successful launch of its PlayNow online casino in late 2022 or early 2023. The platform attracted over 15,000 users, and PlayNow reported profitability in its first fiscal year, according to SIGA’s annual report for 2022–2023. While PlayNow’s casino sector witnessed a lot of activity, sports betting is anticipated to gain momentum with improved marketing initiatives and tactical alliances.
The Saskatchewan launch of SIGA’s PlayNow online gaming platform is highlighted in its annual report. Since its debut on November 3, 2022, PlayNow has provided Saskatchewan citizens with alternatives for online casino gambling and sports betting. PlayNow was created in partnership with the British Columbia Lottery Corp. (BCLC).
Since that time, PlayNow has gathered a sizable clientele of more than 15,000 users, demonstrating its profitability throughout its first full fiscal year of operation.
PlayNow had a significant amount of activity on the casino side in the first few months following the debut. Notably, SIGA recorded slot machine wagers of $113 million and spins of $50 million, for a net win of $4.995 million.
Even while the casino segment performed well, only $117,000 was gambled on sports within the same time period, which was quite low.
Zane Hansen, president and chief executive officer of SIGA, expressed enthusiasm for the new business channel that PlayNow’s debut would provide. Through improved marketing skills and smart partnerships with other gaming stakeholders in Saskatchewan, the company will focus on growing PlayNow’s client base going ahead.
PlayNow’s successful launch is an important turning point for SIGA because it is the first licensed online gaming and sports betting platform in Saskatchewan. SIGA is the only First Nations-owned business in Canada with such a revenue sharing agreement for online gaming income, according to Chief Bobby Cameron of the Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nations.
By establishing PlayNow, SIGA secures a significant place in the developing online gaming market, encouraging future business prospects and First Nations community growth.
