Polymarket Rolls Out Big Platform Changes, New Trading Engine And USD Token

Share

Polymarket is changing the plumbing first, not the front page. The platform said Monday that a rebuilt trading engine, upgraded smart contracts, and a new collateral asset called Polymarket USD are coming over the next few weeks after customer feedback. The company called it its “biggest infrastructure change since launch” and said the goal is “Faster execution, lower gas, (and) a cleaner foundation going forward.”

Good to Know

  • Polymarket said the update includes a rebuilt trading engine, new smart contracts, and Polymarket USD.
  • The platform had already removed a controversial Iran-related market and later published tighter insider trading rules in March.
  • Polymarket also partnered with Palantir and TWG AI on sports integrity monitoring tools.

Polymarket Reworks The Back End While Pressure Builds

Polymarket is best known for binary contracts across sports, politics, finance, weather, and entertainment. Now it is rebuilding core parts of how trading works. A new in-house collateral token, Polymarket USD, pulls the platform further away from dependence on bridged USDC.e and gives it more room to react if market structure or regulation changes. The company said the broader upgrade should make trading quicker and cheaper.

The timing is not random. In March, Polymarket removed a controversial Iran market after backlash tied to war-related contracts. Around the same period, it also published tighter rules aimed at illegal insider trading, blocking trading by people with certain nonpublic information and by people who can influence an event outcome.

Those changes followed a run of trades that drew attention for being unusually well timed. Reuters Breakingviews reported that six Polymarket accounts may have made about $1.2 million on bets tied to the ouster of Iran leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Reuters also reported concerns around bets connected to Nicolas Maduro and other geopolitical outcomes.

Sports has become another front in that integrity effort. In March, Polymarket and Palantir said they were working with TWG AI to build a sports integrity platform aimed at spotting suspicious behavior and helping leagues, teams, and traders trust those markets more.

Shayne Coplan said:

“Our partnership with Palantir and TWG AI allows us to apply world-class analytics and monitoring to sports markets.”

In separate coverage, Coplan also described the broader direction as “the way it should have been built.”

Earlier in March Polymarket had also announced new measures to combat insider trading.
