The World Cup in Brazil makes everyone in the world wanting to bet it seems and apparently many of them don’t care if it is illegal to do so or not. The police of Macau reported yesterday that they had busted an illegal betting ring that operated out of their town, calling it the biggest illegal gambling ring caught to date.
According to the files found during the arrest, the gambling ring had a massive $645 million in bets during the first week of the World Cup, equal to around HK$5 billion. Included in the $645 million was a single bet of $5.1 million, which just shows that the gambling ring had some extraordinary contacts which they took bets from.
“Records showed that (betting) had reached HK$5 billion. It has already surpassed the biggest betting case in history,” Suen Kam-fai, a spokesman for the Macau police told Hong Kong’s Cable News channel.
When the group was arrested, the police found records of bets, around $260,000 in cash as well as computers and other stuff needed to operate. The betting ring was busted in the hotel which they were operating on and consisted of four from Hong-Kong, nine from Malaysia and nine from China Mainland.
