In collaboration with DraftKings, the Oregon Lottery is launching a new betting feature on the 2024 Summer Olympic Games in Paris, which is scheduled to start on July 26. Sports bettors now have more options to choose from with this most recent addition.
Bettors may now use DraftKings to place bets on a range of events as the Olympics draw near. There are bets on whether a single country will dominate a specific sport, whether any world records will be broken, and even how many medals individual athletes or nations will win. Users can also place bets on which nation will win the most gold medals overall and which sport a nation will earn its first gold in.
Since its inception in October 2019, the Oregon Lottery has offered Olympic betting only twice before. The introduction of these new betting opportunities is expected to invigorate interest in sports wagering during the traditionally slower summer months.
Kerry Hemphill, Sports Betting Products Manager at Oregon Lottery, expressed hopes for increased betting activity due to the Olympics. “Because we’re in the off-season for basketball and football, the summer months are typically slower for sports wagering. We’re hoping to see a boost in interest thanks to US Olympic stars,” Hemphill said.
The 2024 Summer Olympics feature several athletes with connections to Oregon, including gymnast Jade Carey, shot putter Ryan Crouser, and fencer Magda Skarbonkiewicz. Canadian soccer players Janine Beckie and Jessie Fleming, who have ties to Oregon, are also competing. Their participation is expected to further stimulate local interest in the games.
DraftKings took over as the official sportsbook supplier for the Oregon Lottery in January 2022, taking the place of the Scoreboard app. Through this transfer, customers could easily transfer their current cash to the DraftKings site. Since then, the collaboration has given rise to a number of inventive betting alternatives, including ones centered around big events like Super Bowl LVIII, which offered themed bets for fans of Taylor Swift.
With new methods for fans to interact with and enjoy the Olympic Games, this latest Olympic betting feature is another milestone in the evolution of sports wagering in Oregon.
