In a clear indication of its strong commitment to moral behavior in sports betting, the Ohio Casino Control Commission is proposing a lifetime ban for former University of Alabama baseball coaches Brad Bohannon and Bert Neff Jr. The concept originated with allegations that illegal sports betting businesses were using private information.
Mooresville, Indiana, resident Neff Jr. is rumored to have placed a wager that the University of Alabama will fall short against LSU in April. Bohannon is credited with providing the insider information that set off the questionable betting behavior. Luke Holman, the starting pitcher for Alabama, famously scratched the Tide before the game.
The SEC commissioner, Greg Sankey, emphasized the zero-tolerance policy for acts that compromise the integrity of competition in sports. The SEC started employing U.S. Integrity to actively monitor behavior linked to gaming in 2018. According to Sankey, “There must be zero tolerance for activity that puts into question the integrity of competition.”
Prior to joining the University of Alabama, Bohannon served notable roles as an assistant coach at Auburn and the University of Kentucky. Because of his exceptional play during his last season at UK, he was awarded the ABCA/Baseball America Assistant Coach of the Year.
The Ohio Casino Control Commission has formally placed a lifelong ban on Bohannon and Neff Jr.’s ability to gamble on sports. They each have thirty days to challenge Ohio’s listing of involuntary exclusion. The panel emphasized that due process, which includes a hearing if the parties desire one, is allowed under the Ohio Revised Code-based approach.
In an official statement, the commission clarified its stance, stating that Ohio’s Sports Gaming Involuntary Exclusion List must contain Bohannon and Neff Jr. in order to protect the state’s interests and ensure effective sports gaming regulation. The right to due process is respected, and the final decision will be made at a public commission meeting.
This action highlights how crucial it is becoming to preserve integrity in sports betting and how strict authorities are ready to be in upholding moral principles.
