Nottingham Forest’s Harry Toffolo Receives Suspended Ban for Betting Breaches

The English Football Association (FA) has issued a five-month suspension on Nottingham Forest defender Harry Toffolo after he admitted to 375 violations of the FA’s betting laws. The ban is in effect until the end of the 2024-25 football season. Toffolo was also fined £20,956 (€24,374/$26,202) in connection with the case.

Toffolo was accused in July with betting on football events from 22 January 2014 to 18 March 2017. According to FA Rule E8, players, match officials, and coaches are completely forbidden from betting, directly or indirectly, on any football-related topic anywhere in the globe. Toffolo had until July 19 to react to these allegations.

Harry Toffolo, 28, made his mark in the football world by representing Premier League club Nottingham Forest in 2022. However, during the period highlighted by the FA’s investigation, he was on loan at various clubs.

Loaned out by Norwich City, Toffolo had stints at Swindon Town, Rotherham United, Peterborough United, and Scunthorpe United. Notably, these clubs competed in the lower leagues, operating outside the top-tier Premier League.

During the 2023-24 season, Harry Toffolo has made only one appearance for Nottingham Forest. He came on as a substitute during the 1-0 League Cup defeat to Burnley last month.

This development comes on the heels of Brentford and England striker Ivan Toney’s ban for breaching FA betting rules. Toney was initially handed an 11-month ban after being charged with 262 breaches of Rule E8. Notably, these infractions occurred during a period when he was not playing for Premier League club Brentford.
