The NFL has reinforced its commitment to combating problem gambling by extending its partnership with the National Council on Problem Gambling (NCPG). This new three-year agreement includes a substantial $6.4 million grant aimed at enhancing nationwide problem gambling prevention and promoting responsible gambling practices.

Anna Isaacson, the NFL’s Senior Vice President of Social Responsibility, expressed the significance of this extension. “Our partnership with NCPG underscores the vital impact of their work and our ongoing commitment to advocate for and support responsible gambling initiatives,” she stated. Isaacson further highlighted the league’s dedication to leveraging its platform and resources to raise awareness and provide education, stating, “We are proud to leverage our platform and resources with NCPG’s expertise to raise awareness, provide education and help prevent problem gambling.”

Expanded Initiatives and Continued Efforts

This latest grant builds on the NFL’s previous support, which began with a three-year, $6.2 million donation awarded in October 2021. That grant was the largest in NCPG’s history until now. The new funding will bolster three primary initiatives: modernizing the National Problem Gambling Helpline, developing the Agility Grants program, and increasing awareness in underserved communities.

Keith Whyte, Executive Director of NCPG, acknowledged the importance of this renewed support. “We are profoundly grateful for the NFL’s renewed investment in NCPG, which will enable us to grow the essential prevention, education and awareness initiatives that were established through their initial grant,” Whyte said. He emphasized the impact of the partnership, noting, “This partnership has been instrumental in advancing our mission of minimizing gambling-related harm. We look forward to building on the significant progress we’ve made together over the past three years and exploring new avenues for impact.”

The NFL’s previous grant facilitated significant improvements, including upgraded technology, increased staffing, and enhanced data collection capabilities across the 28 contact centers within the National Problem Gambling Helpline Network. The expanded partnership will continue to drive these essential efforts forward, ensuring that problem gambling prevention remains a priority.
