Total gross gaming revenue (GGR) increased significantly, according to the January 2025 commercial gambling statistics published by the New York State Gaming Commission. Ultimately, New York’s GGR for the month was $54 million, up about $5 million from January 2024.
Slots were the main revenue driver, contributing $37.3 million, an increase of approximately $4 million from the same period last year. Table games brought in an additional $14.8 million, while poker tables earned over $900,000. While these figures reflect slight gains from the previous year, they still highlight New York’s steady growth in commercial gambling.
Additionally, the amount of gaming taxes paid in the state increased, surpassing $12.8 million in January. Compared to January of last year, this sum is almost a $1 million gain.
Missouri is getting closer to being one of the states that allows legal sports betting. Missouri is set to become the 39th state to allow regulated sports betting following the state’s recent voter approval. This comes after the US Supreme Court struck down PASPA in 2018.
With 38 states now on board, Missouri’s action suggests that the nation’s regulated sports betting market will continue to expand.
