According to media sources, North Carolina’s much anticipated mobile sports betting might launch by the end of February. After seven operators filed state applications for sports betting licenses before the deadline of December 27th, the excitement around this launch grew even more. Up to twelve mobile operators might soon be approved, since the North Carolina Lottery Commission is currently accepting applications.
Insiders surmise that the go-live date would probably come before March Madness, which is scheduled to start on March 19th, even though state lottery authorities have not yet revealed an official launch date. The sixty-day period excludes any chance of legal Super Bowl betting on February 11, 2024, but gives operators a chance to familiarize themselves with North Carolina rules and regulations.
Right now, the employees of the lottery are gathering and arranging the application data that suppliers, operators, and service providers have sent in. The next step in the procedure will be assessment, which will establish whether or not applicants are qualified for approval. Even though the Commission has until June 15th to implement mobile sports betting, all signs point to a sooner start date.
In a positive statement, commission spokesman Van Denton said, “North Carolinians love basketball season and are looking forward to the chance to bet on their favorite teams and players.” According to Gov. Roy Cooper of North Carolina, who wants sports betting to open before March Madness, Denton alluded to a forthcoming announcement on the beginning of sports betting in the state.
As North Carolina gets closer to embracing the thrilling world of mobile sports betting, regulatory changes are happening at a faster rate. The Commission’s sports betting committee is slated to meet on January 4th, and a full Commission hearing is scheduled for January 11th.
