Iowa Sees Strong Sports Betting Numbers in September

Share

The September sports betting data from the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission were announced, and the numbers are astounding. Compared to the same time last year, the state’s total sports betting handle for the month was around $270.8 million, indicating a significant increase.

In comparison to numbers from a year earlier, the handle for September showed a gain of about $25 million. The $272 million record established in March, which remains the sixth-highest monthly handle since the start of Iowa’s sports betting industry, was barely surpassed by the impressive numbers.

The net receipts from sports wagering for the month were reported by the state to be close to $27.5 million. The majority of bets were still made online, with 19 operators pulling in about $252 million in total.

Player Winnings and Tax Contributions

A total of $243 million in prizes were taken home by Iowan players in September. About $227.7 million of this came from bets made online. The state gained as well; last month’s sports wagering activities brought in close to $1.9 million in tax contributions.

Iowa’s sports betting industry is still a major driver of the state’s economy, generating tax income in addition to player participation as it expands.
