The Illinois Gaming Board has unveiled its latest sports betting report, highlighting impressive growth for August. The state recorded a total sports betting handle of $877.8 million, a 29.8% increase compared to the same period last year. This strong performance reflects Illinois’ continued rise as a major player in the U.S. sports betting market. The revenue has significantly increased from the month of July.
In August, adjusted gross revenue (AGR) from completed sports wagers reached $52.9 million. Online betting played a significant role, generating $57.8 million, while sportsbooks contributed $1.3 million. DraftKings led the charge as the top operator, raking in $22.7 million in adjusted revenue. Hot on its heels, FanDuel earned $21.7 million, making it the second-highest earner for the month.
Illinois’ success in sports betting signals not only the state’s market growth but also the increasing popularity of online wagering. This momentum is expected to carry forward as more sports seasons come into play.
In addition to the sports betting results, Illinois casinos reported solid numbers for September. Adjusted gross receipts for casinos across the state totaled $139 million. Slot machines accounted for $107 million, while table games contributed nearly $32 million.
Rivers Casino emerged as the top performer, generating $41.5 million in revenue for the month. Other notable contributors included Hard Rock Casino Rockford and Bally’s Chicago, which is currently operating as a temporary venue until its permanent location is completed.
September also marked the first full month of operation for Hard Rock Casino Rockford’s permanent location, which opened at the end of August. The casino made a strong debut, generating $13.7 million in revenue during its initial month.
