Google has recently unveiled updates to its Gambling and Games policy, signaling a significant shift in its advertising guidelines. Specifically, the tech giant announced that it will now allow advertisements for daily fantasy sports (DFS) in certain states across the United States.
In an official statement released online, Google detailed its plans to accept and display ads from DFS operators in specific states. The company specified, “We will begin to accept and run ads for daily fantasy sports operators in Alaska, California, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Minnesota, Nebraska, New Mexico, North Carolina, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Utah, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and Wyoming.”
According to Google’s new policy, advertisers targeting states where no specific licensing is required must hold a valid license in at least one other US state that mandates such licensing for DFS operations.
Despite the announcement, the updated policy will not come into effect until July 15. Google assured that it will update its policy page to reflect the changes once the implementation date arrives. Advertisers looking to capitalize on this opportunity are advised to apply for certification as per the revised guidelines.
