With the NFL season about to kick off, FanDuel is giving its customers an extra layer of protection on player prop bets through a new feature called Bet Protect.
Good to know
FanDuel confirmed the program just two days before the opening week of the NFL. The idea is simple: if you back an NFL player in a prop market and they exit the game during the first quarter due to injury, you won’t be left empty-handed.
Straight wagers will be refunded as bonus bets within 24 hours. For parlays and Same Game Parlays, FanDuel will re-price the ticket with updated odds. If the injured player was the only part of the slip that lost, the bet will be paid out in bonus bets.
The sportsbook noted that while the bonus bet protection applies, the original wager will still appear as a loss under “My Bets” once the game settles.
Eligibility is limited to NFL player props, covering offensive players, kickers, and certain defensive markets. The protection is only valid on pre-game wagers.
The move mirrors a growing trend in the sports betting industry. DraftKings recently launched its own Early Exit feature, which issues cash credits equal to the stake if a bet is heavily affected by an injury or unusual circumstance. FanDuel’s approach differs by focusing specifically on NFL props, one of the most popular markets among US bettors.
