FanDuel Fined for Betting Mishap on April Fool’s Day

New Jersey regulators recently fined FanDuel for accepting wagers on events that had already occurred. According to an Associated Press report, the operator faced a $2,000 fine for the springtime blunder.

On April 1, 2022, FanDuel accepted 34 bets on mixed martial arts fights advertised as live events for that day. However, these fights had actually taken place a week earlier, on March 25. The operator accepted 26 online wagers and eight retail bets, totaling $190,904.

The New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement addressed the issue in a public letter. They revealed that FanDuel “was not notified by its data-feed providers that the Professional Fighters League matches were actually a recording of events that had already happened.” Deputy Attorney General Gina DeAnnuntis explained further, “FanDuel confirmed that its traders failed to confirm with PFL that the event had previously occurred and was being presented via a tape delay.”

FanDuel has yet to comment on the incident. In addition to the fine, the operator paid out over $230,000 to settle the wagers placed on the recorded events.
