Danish Gambling Authority Joins Forces with Industry Leaders to Combat Match-Fixing

Since April 1st, the Danish Gambling Authority has served as the secretariat of the national platform committed to preventing match-fixing, a critical step in maintaining the integrity of sports events. The authorities and three prestigious firms that specialize in monitoring betting activity during sporting events have formed a ground-breaking partnership. This strategic collaboration intends to uncover inconsistencies that may indicate match-fixing as soon as possible and respond effectively to protect the integrity of sports.

The Danish Gambling Authority is championing the cause alongside three important industry leaders: Sportradar, United Lotteries for Integrity in Sport (ULIS), and the International Betting Integrity Association (IBIA). These firms are capable of monitoring worldwide betting transactions on athletic events and giving notifications immediately if any suspicious abnormalities are discovered. The extent of their monitoring includes keeping an eye on odds swings and betting activity, as well as serving as a central repository for information shared among members.

The Danish Gambling Authority obtains the crucial benefit of immediate warnings from all three firms as a result of this unique partnership, enhancing its capacity to detect and respond to possible match-fixing situations, particularly those involving sporting events in Denmark.

Anders Dorph, Director of the Danish Gambling Authority, expressed profound satisfaction with the tripartite cooperation agreements. He noted, “We are very happy about the three cooperation agreements. It will significantly strengthen our efforts against match-fixing that we now receive the alerts directly. Combined with our own large amounts of data, it has the potential to make our work even more efficient. We will be able to react very quickly and help stop behaviour that threatens the integrity of the sport.”

When the Danish Gambling Authority receives an alarm from the diligent trio of monitoring businesses, it conducts a thorough examination of the data. If the evaluation indicates the presence of aberrant patterns that point to match-fixing, the authority launches an in-depth inquiry into the individual case. If the investigation uncovers evidence of foul play, the matter is smoothly handed to the authority of the police and/or appropriate sporting organizations.
