Coursetrack’s Revolutionary GPS Technology Enhances Irish Horse Racing Experience

Horse Racing Ireland (HRI), the Association of Irish Racecourses (AIR), and prominent media businesses Sports Information Services (SIS) and Racecourse Media Group (RMG) have formed a pioneering alliance that is expected to transform the Irish horse racing environment. Coursetrack, an innovative timing system administered by RMG’s partners, will be rolled out to all Irish courses beginning January 1, 2024, as part of the recently agreed media rights renewal.

Coursetrack brings a new level of precision to the sport by combining lightweight GPS trackers that are precisely engineered to fit beneath the saddlecloth, allowing accurate tracking of each horse during races. This information is subsequently sent straight to Racing TV’s London studios, removing the need for on-course antenna installations. The information is continuously monitored by the London staff, ensuring absolute accuracy and dependability.

The installation of cutting-edge technology from Coursetrack offers up a world of in-race data for all horse racing fans in Ireland. This information comprises the race clock, the leader’s speed, the leader’s time per furlong, and the distance to the finish line. Live broadcasts with this essential data will be received by networks such as RTE and Racing TV, boosting the viewers’ experience and knowledge of the races.

Coursetrack has a proven track record of success, having been installed in 35 British racetracks and garnering worldwide acclaim. Coursetrack’s live data is currently shown on ITV in the United Kingdom, Virgin Media in Ireland, and Racing TV in both countries. The system is already running at Leopardstown, Dundalk, and Fairyhouse in Ireland, with all 26 racecourses expected to join next year.

Suzanne Eade, CEO of Horse Racing Ireland, expressed enthusiasm for the timing data release, emphasizing the necessity of offering adequate information to individuals interested in betting on Irish races. The Association of Irish Racecourses’ CEO, Paul Hensey, reiterated this attitude, emphasizing the importance of a dependable and accurate system for race fans, punters, and participants alike.

Dave Tharp, Managing Director of Coursetrack, expressed excitement in working with HRI and AIR on this pioneering project. Coursetrack’s cutting-edge GPS technology provides horse racing data with unsurpassed reliability, low latency, and ease of understanding. This data is useful for race analysis and in-running betting since it provides a scientific evaluation of a horse’s performance.

Ruby Walsh, a former 12-time champion jockey and current RTE, ITV, and Racing TV broadcaster and analyst, underlined the importance of pace in horse racing. Sectional timings are important in his work as an analyst since they allow him to analyze a horse’s performance based on how the race was run. The addition of exact clock data from Coursetrack is invaluable in confirming the race speed analysis.
