Carl Brincat has been named by LeoVegas as its new Director of Policy and Regulatory Affairs. Former CEO of the Malta Gaming Authority (MGA) Brincat will take over in August and be based out of LeoVegas’ offices in Sliema, Malta. He will answer directly to Chief Legal and Compliance Officer Abby Cosgrave of the corporation.

As LeoVegas expands into new international markets, Brincat will supervise the company’s dealings with regulatory agencies in his new capacity. In addition to overseeing the company’s policy objectives, his duties will involve managing connections with regulatory bodies and liaising with trade associations within the industry.

Reflecting on his new position, Brincat stated, “I’m very excited to be joining LeoVegas Group. I have witnessed firsthand the group’s growth from a newly founded challenger company into a leader in iGaming, with strong brands and a significant focus on offering gaming in a safe yet entertaining way.” He emphasized his alignment with LeoVegas’ values and expressed eagerness to support the company’s expansion plans while strengthening its global regulatory relationships.

Brincat’s Background and Recent Developments

Carl Brincat’s tenure at the MGA was marked by significant contributions. After joining the MGA in 2014 as a legal adviser, he climbed through various roles, culminating in his appointment as CEO in 2021. Brincat decided not to renew his contract, which ended in January 2024, paving the way for Charles Mizzi to succeed him as MGA CEO.

LeoVegas’ expansion strategy recently included the acquisition of Tipico’s U.S. sports betting operations, a move that is expected to conclude by the end of Q3. This acquisition aligns with LeoVegas’ broader aim to enhance its presence in global markets, reflecting its commitment to growth and innovation.

With Brincat’s extensive experience and LeoVegas’ ambitious growth plans, the company is poised to strengthen its global regulatory strategy and further solidify its position in the iGaming industry.
