Brazilian Ministry and IBIA Partner for Safer Sports Betting

The Brazilian Ministry of Finance and the International Betting Integrity Association (IBIA) have joined forces to combat suspicious betting activity in Brazilian sports. Through a newly signed cooperation agreement, both organizations will now share data on betting irregularities and collaborate closely on investigations. This partnership combines the regulatory strength of Brazil’s government with IBIA’s extensive global monitoring experience to ensure a safer, more reliable sports betting market in Brazil.

IBIA, which monitors integrity for private betting operators worldwide, is expected to oversee more than 70% of Brazil’s online gambling market, according to H2 Gambling Capital’s projections. As the sports betting market in Brazil expands, the need for strong protections against match-fixing and other forms of betting manipulation has become critical. In fact, a study on sports betting product availability and market integrity predicted that Brazil’s sports betting market could generate $34 billion in turnover by 2028.

A key element of Brazil’s new sports betting regulatory framework requires betting operators to join an independent integrity monitoring body. This mandate strengthens IBIA’s ability to detect and address suspicious betting behavior, supporting transparency and integrity in Brazilian sports. Khalid Ali, CEO of IBIA, emphasized the importance of this collaboration, noting, “Under this agreement, IBIA will identify and report suspicious betting on Brazilian sporting events to the Ministry of Finance to support investigatory actions. That will include detailed customer account data that is only available to IBIA and its members.”

Brazilian officials view this partnership as an essential step in addressing betting manipulation and match-fixing. Frederico Alves Soares Justo, General Coordinator of Money Laundering for the Brazilian Ministry of Finance, expressed confidence in the collaboration, saying, “For the Secretary of Prizes and Betting to sign this agreement with IBIA is the certainty that we are on the right path to curb the manipulation of results.”
