The digital sports media company Better Collective has announced the purchase of Playmaker HQ for $54 million, with $15 million paid up front. South Florida-based Playmaker HQ is an industry leader in creating interesting sports content and unique activations with players and content producers.
Playmaker HQ distributes more than 2,000 pieces of sports content every month across a number of social media channels, including YouTube, Snapchat, Twitter, and TikTok. Playmaker HQ has an incredible 500 million monthly consumers who get its material thanks to its 20+ million-strong following.
Better Collective believes that the purchase will result in a number of synergies. It first receives access to a brand-new, sizable audience of sports lovers via the platforms of Playmaker HQ. Second, the purchase strengthens Better Collective’s ability to monetize outside of its core audience by bringing key sponsorship sales skills. Last but not least, Better Collective’s worldwide reach will assist Playmaker HQ in entering new markets.
On July 3, Playmaker HQ will be included into Better Collective’s accounts. Better Collective maintains its annual financial goals notwithstanding the takeover.
The deal has Marc Pedersen, CEO of Better Collective North America, excited since it gives him access to millions of new sports enthusiasts. He thinks that by acquiring Playmaker HQ, Better Collective will be able to scale Playmaker HQ’s product and income throughout its entire worldwide portfolio, improving the sports betting experience for these fans. Here’s what he stated, “Playmaker HQ offers access to millions of sports fans in the US, the majority of which are new in the Better Collective user base. We are excited to help enhance these fans’ sports betting experience, while also being able to utilize Playmaker HQ’s know-how to scale the product and revenue stream across Better Collective’s global portfolio.”
The transaction was praised by Brandon Harris, CEO of Playmaker HQ, who called it an important turning point for his business. He is eager to work with the resources and people at Better Collective to realize their goal of creating the top sports media organization in the world. He said, “I know our creators are going to do amazing things with the support of Better Collective’s team and resources. We are just scratching the surface, and we are so excited to align with Better Collective to help achieve OUR vision of building the world’s leading sports media group.”
