Betsafe Sportsbook announced over the weekend that it will be closing its Colorado online store. The notice, released on Friday, said the app would stop working on September 30. This move was made soon after Australian-based ClutchBet said it would completely leave the American market.
Betsafe will no longer take new account registrations or deposits as of September 6. The last day for bettors to put any more bets is September 16. The site will formally close on September 30. All account monies must be withdrawn by September 27.
How unresolved bets will be resolved has not been made clear by Betsafe. It is recommended that customers contact support for more information.
Colorado, which currently boasts the highest number of sports betting operators in the U.S., will see its roster decrease from 19 to 17 by month’s end. Betsafe’s exit marks another significant shift in the state’s competitive sports betting landscape.
The sportsbook, operated by Betsson, is present in only a few North American markets, including Canada. However, Betsafe recently expanded into South America, securing a license in Peru in June. The company launched its U.S. operations in March 2022 through a partnership with Dostal Alley Casino, aiming to leverage Betsson’s proprietary sportsbook technology.
With its global headquarters in Sweden and operations in Malta, Betsson is the parent company of more than 20 gambling brands, including NordicBet, Europebet, and Casinoeuro. In 2024, the company had a 15% year-over-year revenue gain in the second quarter, setting a record, although it still confronts fierce competition in the US market.
Recent struggles by smaller B2C operators against more established rivals have resulted in exits such as Betsafe’s. Because Colorado regulators do not reveal specific operator revenue, it is unknown what exactly Betsafe’s market share is.
