Betr, the microbetting platform co-owned by YouTube personality Jake Paul and Joey Levy, has successfully obtained its Maryland wagering license from the Sports Wagering Application Review Commission (SWARC). This achievement marks a significant step forward for Betr, which is already operational in Ohio and Virginia, with plans to launch in Indiana pending.
In a landscape dominated by major players, Betr stands out as a smaller betting company that continues to expand its footprint. Earlier this year, Betr exited Massachusetts but has since gained momentum with its entry into multiple states.
Maryland’s lottery commission approved Betr’s application in May, paving the way for SWARC’s final licensing decision. This comes at a time when BetFred is withdrawing from the Maryland market, creating strategic opportunities for newcomers like Betr.
As Betr gears up for its Maryland launch, another player, Veterans Services Corporation (VSC), is preparing to enter the market on July 1st. VSC, affiliated with Bee-Fee Limited, brings digital betting expertise and prior experience as a subcontractor for Intralot in Washington, DC.
Transitioning from regulatory approvals to operational readiness, both Betr and VSC illustrate the dynamic nature of the sports betting industry, where regulatory landscapes and market exits create openings for agile firms.
