BetMGM Set to Expand in Washington DC on July 15

According to WTOP News, BetMGM is preparing for a big expansion in Washington, DC, which is expected to go live citywide on July 15. BetMGM’s mobile app, which was previously limited to Nationals Park and the surrounding area, will soon be available throughout the capital.

At its Nats Park sportsbook, BetMGM will celebrate this achievement with a big citywide rollout event. Live band performances will commence the festivities early in the morning, and later in the day, media coverage will take place.

Growing Competition in DC’s Sports Betting Market

Washington DC sports enthusiasts have had access to betting through FanDuel’s app since the city’s Office of Lottery and Gaming selected FanDuel earlier this year to replace GambetDC. The city legalized sports betting back in 2020, and recent budget approvals indicate a welcoming stance towards additional operators entering the market.

Council member Kenyan R. McDuffie introduced legislation earlier this year aimed at enhancing the city’s sports betting landscape by allowing major betting operators to collaborate with local sports teams, potentially revitalizing the mobile sports betting market.

BetMGM continues to expand its digital presence, now operating in over 25 jurisdictions. Over the past year alone, the brand has launched in six new North American markets, including New York, Louisiana, and Maryland, among others. Currently active in 29 US states, BetMGM stands as a significant player in the evolving landscape of legal sports betting.

More than 35 states have accepted regulated markets since the US Supreme Court struck down the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA) in 2018, opening the door for states to allow sports betting. The countrywide acceptance and interest in sports betting has increased as a result of this legislative change.

BetMGM’s strategic growth inside the US sports betting sector continues with its entrance into Washington, DC, which should improve accessibility and engagement for sports fans in the nation’s capital.
