ASA Pulls Ladbrokes and Jumpman Gaming Ads for Breaching Advertising Rules

Share

The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) has taken action against Ladbrokes and Jumpman Gaming, removing their advertisements owing to advertising regulations violations. The ASA determined that Ladbrokes’ sponsored tweets starring Premier League managers were likely to appeal to those under the age of 18. Likewise, Jumpman Gaming’s advertisement, which featured a call to action on the browser tab, was found to encourage potentially dangerous gaming behavior.

The ASA removed two promotional tweets from Ladbrokes due to their possible appeal to persons under the age of 18. The first tweet contained photographs of Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe, while the second featured four Premier League managers at the time. Ladbrokes defended the initial tweet, claiming it was intended as editorial content honoring Eddie Howe’s triumph and contained no promotional aspects. The corporation erected an age gate and limited the adverts to anybody above the age of 25. However, Ladbrokes confessed culpability for the second tweet, stating that including the managers’ photographs violated company policies.

Jumpman Gaming was also penalized by the ASA for an ad that violated advertising regulations. When consumers left the site open to view another page, the ad displayed a camera icon and the text “Hey! Come back” on the browser tab. Jumpman Gaming claimed that the alert’s objective was to remind clients that the site was not closed. The ASA, on the other hand, disagreed and determined that the advisory may be interpreted as encouraging dangerous gaming behavior.

The ASA determined that the tab alert advertisement breached the rule by potentially encouraging behaviors that could result in financial, social, or emotional harm. The notice was deemed inappropriate and in violation of advertising standards since it exploited the vulnerabilities of vulnerable individuals.
