Arizona Sports Betting Shows Significant Growth in May

Share

The sports betting figures for May, which were made public by the Arizona Department of Gaming, show a marked increase in activity. $568.5 million in wagers were reported in the state, a significant rise of 25.9% over the same month the previous year. Arizona’s growing sports betting sector and growing popularity among bettors are highlighted by this growth.

A thorough analysis of the data reveals that the main factor causing this growth was mobile sports betting. Retail establishments contributed more than $4 million, while mobile wagers totaled $563.2 million. Furthermore, bets placed with operators of limited event wagering came to a total of around $1.1 million for the month.

Among mobile betting platforms, DraftKings and FanDuel were the leaders. FanDuel held the top spot, securing $192.7 million in wagers. DraftKings followed closely with $188.3 million. BetMGM and Caesars also made significant contributions, with online wagers of $63.5 million and $35.2 million, respectively.

In terms of winnings, Arizona bettors collectively earned almost $590.4 million in May. This led to operators generating approximately $63 million in total revenue. The state also collected around $4.3 million in privilege fees from these activities.

Looking ahead, the Arizona Department of Gaming has announced plans to start accepting applications for event wagering licenses starting next month. The regulator will issue at least one license each for Arizona Tribes and Arizona Sports Franchises. This move is part of the state’s ongoing efforts to expand and regulate its sports betting market.

Arizona has been embracing legal sports betting outside Tribal gaming since April 2021, when Governor Doug Ducey signed the relevant bill into law. The state’s sports wagering market officially launched in September 2021, setting the stage for continued growth and development.
