Tether, known for creating the USDT stablecoin, has announced its entry into the artificial intelligence sector, emphasizing a commitment to enhancing AI’s accessibility and efficiency. This strategic move will focus on crafting open-source AI models and setting new benchmarks for the industry, the company announced this Tuesday.
The initiative is part of Tether’s broader vision to leverage AI in transforming various aspects of life and business, aligning with their recent investment in Northern Data Group, a firm celebrated for its durable and high-capacity technological solutions. “Artificial intelligence stands poised to revolutionize nearly every facet of our lives, both in the real and digital worlds,” remarked Paolo Ardoino, Tether’s CEO. He further highlighted the synergy between Tether’s ambitions and Northern Data’s capabilities, underscoring the investment as a stride towards realizing their AI aspirations.
Furthermore, Tether is also enhancing its workforce to support its AI venture, introducing roles for an AI Engineer and a Head of AI Research and Development within its Tether Data division. The company is embracing a flexible working model for these positions, although it has established offices in key European cities such as Paris, Madrid, London, and Milan.
The blockchain giant’s foray into AI follows a significant financial commitment made in November, when Tether invested $622.6 million in the Frankfurt-based Northern Data Group. This company is at the forefront of developing generative AI cloud platforms, alongside its engagements in Bitcoin mining and data center services.
