Gunzilla Games, the studio behind the eagerly awaited battle royale shooter “Off the Grid,” co-created by “District 9” film director Neill Blomkamp, has secured $30 million in fresh funding. This investment bolsters the company’s preparations for the game’s debut on platforms including PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X and S. While the launch date remains under wraps, anticipation for the game continues to build.
“Off the Grid” distinguishes itself by accommodating 150 players and integrating blockchain technology to enable players to own unique game assets through Avalanche NFTs. It operates on its own Avalanche subnet, GUNZ, designed not just for its ecosystem but also to support development by other game creators.
Vlad Korolov, CEO and co-founder of Gunzilla Games, expressed his enthusiasm for the project’s progress and its potential to redefine the gaming and blockchain industries. “With the forthcoming launch of Off The Grid and GUNZ to the public, we are not just advancing towards a new horizon in AAA gaming but also establishing a new standard in the blockchain space,” Korolov stated, highlighting the support from funding partners as crucial to surpassing gamers’ expectations.
The recent financing round, announced by Gunzilla on Tuesday, was co-led by CoinFund and Avalanche’s Blizzard Fund, with additional contributions from Republic Capital and Morningstar Ventures. This latest financial infusion, that follows a $46 million fundraising round in 2022, includes a strategic $10 million token round alongside undisclosed equity and validator sales.
