Second, the company uses a portion of this electricity to power its Bitcoin mining operations. Matthew Jones, co-founder and COO of Nodal Power, said that when grid economics aren't as favorable, we fall back on bitcoin mining. Currently, only our data centers are used for Bitcoin mining. This approach is consistent with the growing trend of Bitcoin mining that is environmentally friendly. By using clean energy sources like landfill methane that has been collected, Nodal Power ensures that the energy required for cryptocurrency mining leaves the minimum possible environmental footprint. Expanding Operations for a Cleaner Future Nodal Power currently manages two mining data centers in the US, with a third center scheduled to debut in early 2024. The third site, which will be backed by the recent $13 million investment, will be similar to the second site in terms of mining capacity, electrical capacity, and location. Nodal Power, which mostly supplies energy to local utilities, distinguishes itself by including Bitcoin mining into its operations. With this integrated approach, the company can make the most of its resources while advancing a more sustainable and ecologically friendly energy market. According to Daniel Batten, co-founder of CH4 Capital, using landfill gas for Bitcoin mining is essential. He also pointed out that 75% of landfills use methane on-site due to practical considerations. The fact that CH4 Capital has a $400 million fund available to help companies who wish to mine Bitcoin using landfill gas is evidence of the growing interest in environmentally friendly cryptocurrency mining.
