VanEck Researcher Suggests Jack Dorsey Could Be Bitcoin’s Mysterious Creator

Share

Matthew Sigel, head of digital asset analysis at VanEck, has stated that he believes Twitter founder Jack Dorsey may be the true identity of Satoshi Nakamoto, the anonymous person who created Bitcoin (BTC). Sigel asserts that the links between Dorsey and Satoshi are too obvious to overlook, but he clarifies that this is his personal opinion and not VanEck’s official position.

Possible Clues Linking Dorsey to Satoshi

Slides from a research titled “Jack Dorsey = Bitcoin,” which highlighted trends and coincidences connecting Dorsey to the early days of Bitcoin, were posted by Sigel on X (previously Twitter). He brought up the fact that Dorsey was in Japan at the time the Bitcoin whitepaper was released as one important detail. While Satoshi was writing HashCash’s developer, Adam Back, from Satoshi@anonymousspeech.com, he included a link to a cryptography manifesto website called “cr.yp.to.”

A few days later, contact@anonymousspeech.com registered Bitcoin.org, the domain that houses the whitepaper on Bitcoin, to a Tokyo address in Nakano-ku. Sigel added that Dorsey had always admired Adam Back, who is currently the head of the Bitcoin development company Blockstream. Dorsey was also shown sporting a shirt that alluded to Back’s code in his 1996 yearbook from the University of Missouri-Rolla.

Sigel downplayed worries that talking about this hypothesis may harm Bitcoin or its users. Even though Dorsey still owns a sizable portion of Bitcoin, he maintained that the cryptocurrency’s decentralized structure means it cannot be dominated by a single person.

Additionally, he likened the conjecture around Dorsey to another idea, according to which Satoshi was actually Paul Le Roux, a convicted felon who would be eligible for parole in 2032. Concerns about Satoshi’s 1.1 million Bitcoin possibly flooding the market have been raised by that idea. According to Sigel, if Dorsey is Satoshi, then disclosing this information could allay unwarranted anxiety and shed light on Bitcoin’s future.

“If Satoshi is meant to remain unknown, scrutiny will reveal that as well. I understand this view may provoke strong reactions, but I believe it’s a conversation worth having,” Sigel stated.

As speculation continues, the question remains: Is Jack Dorsey truly the mastermind behind Bitcoin, or just another name in the ongoing mystery of Satoshi Nakamoto?
