Ubisoft Releases Champions Tactics – Grimoria Chronicles as Their Next Blockchain Game

Ubisoft, the well-known creator of blockbuster game franchises like Assassin’s Creed and Just Dance, has revealed its latest foray into the blockchain gaming market. Despite earlier criticism from gamers, the studio is still interested in investigating the potential of blockchain technology. Champions Tactics – Grimoria Chronicles, their latest project, was secretly launched last week, promising an immersive player-versus-player (PvP) tactical role-playing game (RPG) experience for PC gamers.

While no visuals have been provided, a teaser film shows off the game’s fantasy universe and teases a potential look inspired by actual tabletop games, with figurine-like outlines of mythical people. According to the official description, players will construct a team of mythological Champions, engage in intense tactical combat against other players, and unravel the mysteries of Grimoria’s dark and strange land.

Notably, Champions Tactics will be Ubisoft’s first venture into the world of Oasys, a blockchain network designed particularly for gaming. Other gaming titans, such as Square Enix, Sega, and Bandai Namco, have expressed interest in Oasys. Last year, DoubleJump.Tokyo announced plans to build an Oasys game based on Sega’s legendary Japanese Sangokushi Taisen historical card game IP.

Instead of being web-based, the forthcoming game will be available on PC via a separate desktop application. The official website teases a “free drop at launch” feature, hinting that Champions Tactics may use NFTs or tokens to facilitate gameplay. However, Ubisoft aims to distribute these products for free, at least in the beginning.
