In a significant step towards establishing a regulated crypto exchange and brokerage in Southeast Asia, Gulf Binance, a collaborative venture between the renowned cryptocurrency exchange Binance and Gulf Energy’s innovation subsidiary Gulf Innova, has been granted a digital asset operator license in Thailand. The green light came from Thailand’s Ministry of Finance, a crucial development that has been outlined in a press release published on Friday.
Gulf Binance is expected to launch its platform by the end of the year, providing a new avenue for crypto enthusiasts and traders in the region. Richard Teng, Binance’s Head of Asia, Europe, and MENA, expressed his optimism about the venture. Combining Binance’s crypto proficiency with Gulf’s solid local foothold, Teng anticipates Gulf Binance will fully explore the potentials of blockchain technology in satisfying Thai user needs.
With Gulf Energy, one of Thailand’s largest private power producers, in its corner, Gulf Binance’s local roots provide an added advantage.
Thailand appears to be gearing up to establish itself as a rising crypto hub in Asia. The nation unveiled a set of regulations for crypto custody services at the start of the year and later declared a $1 billion tax incentive for firms issuing digital tokens for investment purposes.
On the other hand, Thailand’s prohibition on crypto lending and staking services in 2022, along with limitations on digital asset-related advertisements, underlines its careful supervision over this burgeoning market.
