Scammers Exploit Google Ads, Mimicking Revoke Cash Crypto Service

Share

Cybercriminals are using Google Ads to pose as Revoke Cash, a reputable cryptocurrency recovery service, in an alarming new scam that leads consumers to a fake website intended to steal their money. Users are tricked by the hoax, which was exposed by ScamSniffer analysts in an X post on September 13, by having the official address “revoke.cash” appear in search results. Upon clicking, visitors are led to a fraudulent website called “revokc-cash[dot]com,” which puts their cryptocurrency holdings at danger.

Rise in Crypto Scams Using Google Ads

Revoke Cash, launched in 2019, helps crypto users revoke unauthorized access to their funds and regain control over compromised accounts. This scam marks yet another example of criminals using Google’s ad platform to promote counterfeit crypto services. Earlier this year, a similar fraudulent ad targeted Whales Market, a well-known over-the-counter crypto trading platform, redirecting users to a fake site, “www.whaels.market,” which contained malicious scripts designed to compromise digital wallets.

The use of Google Ads in such scams highlights the vulnerabilities in online advertising, especially when it comes to crypto-related services. However, Google has been proactive in addressing these threats. In April, the tech giant filed a lawsuit against two Chinese nationals, Yunfeng Sun and Hongnam Cheung, for allegedly using the Google Play store to promote fake crypto investment apps. Over the last four years, Google deactivated nearly 90 fraudulent apps connected to these individuals, collectively amassing over 100,000 downloads worldwide.

As these scams continue to evolve, both crypto users and platforms must remain vigilant against deceptive tactics aimed at compromising their assets.
