Mox Bank’s action to halt certain accounts previously linked with digital currency transactions has elicited various reactions, with some disgruntled users flagging the issue to the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA), as reported by local media source HKET.

Interestingly, this is not the first time that users have encountered such a challenge. Many customers have expressed their discontent, stating that this is the second incident in two weeks where their accounts have been inexplicably put on hold. This recurring issue led HKMA to intervene, mandating Mox Bank to provide precise responses to all user queries and ensure that they address their customers’ concerns adequately.

In the midst of these turbulent times, Mox Bank has issued a statement in an attempt to reassure its customers, stating, “Customers will continue to be able to use the account after the review is complete. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused to affected customers, and thank all customers for their patience and understanding… Also, this incident has nothing to do with data breaches.”

It is notable to mention that Mox Bank recently made headlines as it was awarded a securities license by Hong Kong’s Securities and Futures Commission (SFC). The digital bank, a joint venture of Standard Chartered, PCCW, HKT, and Trip.com, can now offer US equity trading services in the region. Amid these developments, the issue of account suspensions adds a layer of complexity to the online bank’s growing narrative.
