Swiss five-star luxury hotel, Chedi Andermatt owned by billionaire Samih Sawiris, announced it will accept guests to use digital currencies to pay for their stay in the Swiss Alps resort.

Guests looking to enjoy the beauty of the Alps in the serene location can pay for their stay by using one of the top two leading cryptocurrencies, Bitcoin and Ethereum.

The five-star Chedi Andermatt is located a little over 100 kilometers from Zurich and offers accommodation starting at a thousand dollars a night per the resort’s website.

To integrate crypto payments in its operations, The Chedi Andermatt has partnered with payment service provider Worldline and Swiss crypto service provider Bitcoin Suisse. The hotel will not hold their crypto and confirms that any payments received in the form of cryptocurrencies will immediately be converted into Swiss francs.

General Manager at the Chedi, Jean-Yves Blatt, said:

“We are making a clear statement to our hotel guests that we are open to new technologies and at the same time offer a new payment experience as an additional service.”

The hotel had already planned in 2017 to start accepting crypto for payments, however it did not push thru due to volatility concerns. While it currently accepts Bitcoin and Ethereum, the team is already contemplating supporting other cryptocurrencies.

g putting into place the plans to accept crypto payments as early as 2017, however, it did not go ahead with the plan on account of the volatile price movement experienced in digital currencies.

Crypto payments have become a hot topic as of this year, with the rising popularity of cryptocurrencies. An increased number of businesses globally are starting to offer digital currencies as a payment option.
