In response to the tragic earthquake in Tibet, Bybit, the second-largest cryptocurrency exchange in the world based on trading volume, has committed RMB 5 million to aid recovery operations. The exchange, in collaboration with the Red Cross Society of China (RCSC), seeks to support areas facing extensive loss and devastation.
On January 7, a powerful 7.1-magnitude earthquake struck Tibet, leaving devastation in its wake. At least 126 people lost their lives, 188 were injured, and thousands were displaced. Over 3,000 buildings collapsed, and extreme winter conditions further complicated rescue efforts.
More than 14,000 rescue workers are braving sub-zero temperatures and strong winds to search for survivors. The urgent need for aid prompted Bybit to step forward and contribute to emergency relief and long-term recovery efforts.
Helen Liu, Chief Operating Officer at Bybit, expressed the company’s commitment to supporting affected communities. “As a responsible global leader in the blockchain industry, Bybit is committed to standing with communities in their time of need,” she said. “Our thoughts are with the survivors, the rescue teams, and the families affected by this tragic event. We hope our contribution will help provide much-needed relief and support the road to recovery.”
The funds will be directed toward vital services such as emergency shelter, medical supplies, and food aid. Additionally, they will support long-term rehabilitation initiatives to help affected areas rebuild.
