Changpeng Zhao has put his version of the Binance story into print. Freedom of Money is now out in Kindle format, with paperback, hardcover, and Audible editions expected next.
Good to Know
The legal chapter sits near the center of the pitch, not the edges. Freedom of Money goes into the U.S. case tied to Binance early compliance failures, the settlement that followed, and the four-month prison sentence during which CZ says he wrote much of the book.
From there, the memoir stretches backward. CZ writes about growing up in rural China without running water, then moving with his family to Canada before later launching Binance in 2017 with a small team. Binance says the platform later grew to more than 300 million users and became the fastest startup at the time to reach a $1 billion valuation.
Rather than frame the book only as a personal story, CZ is also selling a case for crypto itself. The release says he writes about hiring, company culture, transparency, client service, and the idea that crypto can give people more control over their finances.
He also makes clear why he wrote it now. CZ said:
“Binance grew faster than almost anyone thought possible and along the way the story of crypto, and my role in it, was told by a lot of other people. Freedom of Money is my chance to tell that story in my own words and recount the rise of Binance, the challenges we faced – and that I personally faced – and why I still believe financial freedom is one of the most powerful ideas of our time.”
Support for the release came from outside crypto too. Ray Dalio said:
“As a great admirer of CZ for his bold contributions to making alternative monies accessible to almost everyone in the world, I’m thrilled that he has so clearly laid out his life story. I recommend it for anyone who aspires to go from humble beginnings to a world shaper or is interested in a fascinating read of CZ building Binance into a pillar of the new monetary order.”
For now, the first format is digital. Kindle is live, while physical editions are expected in the coming days and an Audible version is due later. CZ also posted that proceeds go to charity.
