Argentine authorities are taking legal steps to secure the arrest of Hayden Davis for his alleged role in pump-and-dump schemes tied to at least two memecoins. According to Forbes, a prosecutor in Argentina has asked a judge to issue an Interpol “Red Notice,” an international arrest warrant, to bring Davis into custody.
Davis allegedly played a key role in launching LIBRA, a token linked to Argentina’s President Javier Milei, and MELANIA, which was reportedly backed by former U.S. First Lady Melania Trump. Both tokens collapsed within hours of their debut. LIBRA has since plunged by 92%, while MELANIA is down 94% from its peak.
Prosecutor Gregorio Dalbón formally requested Davis’s immediate detention, stating: “I’m here to request the immediate detention of Hayden Mark Davis, a citizen of the United States, who is accused of being one of the principal actors behind the launch of the cryptocurrency LIBRA… The possibility that Davis will abandon his country of residence or hide to avoid answering for his alleged acts appears to be aggravated by the economic resources he possesses, which he can use to move or remain in hiding, hindering our investigation.”
President Milei, who initially appeared to support LIBRA, distanced himself from the project. He claimed he was misled and deleted a tweet promoting the coin. Addressing the situation, he stated in Spanish: “I was not aware of the details of the project and after having become aware of it I decided not to continue spreading the word (that is why I deleted the tweet). To the filthy rats of the political caste who want to take advantage of this situation to do harm, I want to say that every day they confirm how vile politicians are, and they increase our conviction to kick them in the a**.”
Davis, along with his brother Gideon and father Charles, reportedly did not respond to requests for comment, Forbes noted. Authorities continue to investigate the case, focusing on Davis’s financial resources and potential attempts to evade justice.
