In an interview with CNBC on Tuesday, Airbnb CEO Brian Chesky discussed cryptocurrency and what his company’s can do to help Ukrainian refugees. Airbnb has about 6 million active listings spread around 100,000 cities and towns across the globe
Chesky was asked if his platform supports cryptocurrencies since people in Ukraine are urging to take payments in cryptocurrency after Russia’s invaded the nation. He said:
“Airbnb is. I mean, I am personally supportive of the idea of crypto, of course. I think it’s a really interesting technology.”
He added:
“I went on Twitter in the beginning of the year and I asked a community on Twitter if Airbnb can launch anything in 2022, what would it be? The number one response was [to] add crypto payments, so I have a team looking into that.”

Although there is nothing imminent in the pipeline regarding crypto, Chesky stressed:
“We are absolutely looking into this and specific to this crisis.
Right now we’re really focused on is providing housing for refugees. That’s what I’ve mobilized a team to do.”
In November 2021, Airbnb filed its prospectus with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) expressing an interest in blockchain and cryptocurrencies which are under consideration with the firm.
On Monday, Airbnb announced that it is providing temporary housing for up to 100,000 refugees from Ukraine, free of charge.
