In Puerto Rico, FanDuel has formally opened its sportsbook, becoming the 24th state or territory to provide the service. In addition to a new retail sportsbook site in San Juan, where Cage Sports’ office is situated, this development follows a cooperation with Cage Puerto Rico II (Cage Sports). With the launch, Puerto Ricans who are at least eighteen years old can now sign up in person or place bets online.
In a move to attract new users, FanDuel is offering a generous sign-up bonus: $200 in bonus bets after a user places their first bet of at least $5. This initiative comes as FanDuel aims to bring greater sports betting opportunities to Puerto Rico. The platform assures users that betting on both professional and collegiate sports, including the NFL, NBA, and college football, will be available without restrictions in the territory.
FanDuel’s entry into Puerto Rico strengthens its position in the U.S. territory market, following its recent launch in Washington, D.C., in July 2024. The operator’s wide reach continues to grow, offering a familiar experience for bettors across various regions.
Cage Sports, which co-founded by Robert Johnson and Robert Washington in 2004, has long played a role in the Caribbean and Latin American gaming markets. The company specializes in installing and managing video gaming terminals (VGTs), linked gaming systems, and sports betting content in these regions. Their partnership with FanDuel has allowed for a smooth launch of the sportsbook in Puerto Rico, further expanding Cage Sports’ operations.
This debut comes at a key time for FanDuel’s parent business, Flutter Entertainment. Flutter has reduced its forecasted revenue of $370 million for the United States in 2024. This change came after the NFL season, which was one of the most lucrative times for bettors due to the favorable betting pattern during which favorites won at a record rate. FanDuel is hopeful that it will continue to grow throughout the United States in spite of the heightened competition and lower revenue projections.
