BetMGM rolled out a new integrity policy aimed at protecting athletes, coaches, and league personnel from harassment tied to sports betting activity. The update expands how the sportsbook can respond to misconduct linked to customer behavior.
The company confirmed the policy change Monday through a press release and posts across its social media platforms, signaling a stricter stance as regulated sports betting continues to spread across the United States.
Good to Know
Under the updated standards, BetMGM gains broader authority over customer conduct. Accounts previously faced suspension mainly for unlawful acts. The new framework allows intervention when harassment targets athletes, coaches, or league officials.
Rhea Loney, chief compliance officer at BetMGM, explained the intent behind the update. She said:
“We are unwavering in our commitment to sports integrity – and that commitment extends to safeguarding athletes, coaches and league personnel. Our legal, regulated environment enables us to identify misconduct, investigate reports, and take action when necessary. Any confirmed instance of harassment will result in decisive measures, including account suspension.”
Once regulators approve the change, BetMGM plans to activate the policy across all 30 markets where retail and mobile betting services operate. The company framed the move as a consistency measure, ensuring the same standards apply regardless of location.
The timing aligns with continued expansion of legal sports betting. Missouri became the 39th state to launch in December, adding momentum to a market already drawing record attention.
Industry projections highlight why sportsbooks are tightening standards. The American Gaming Association said the Super Bowl is expected to attract about $1.7 billion in wagers.
BetMGM echoed that context in a public post. The company wrote on X:
“(The policy change) underscores our commitment to sports integrity and player safety.”
NFL legend and BetMGM ambassador Barry Sanders also backed the updated rules, focusing on respect around competition. He said:
“As a professional athlete, I know how important respect is – both on and off the field. BetMGM is sending a strong message that harassment has no place in sports or sports betting. I’m proud to see BetMGM protecting athletes and promoting integrity.”
BetMGM described the harassment policy as one piece of a broader responsible gaming approach. While responsible gaming often refers to addiction prevention, the company applies the concept to bettor conduct away from betting slips.
The sportsbook uses GameSense at 10 football stadiums nationwide. GameSense delivers educational messaging and responsible gaming tips directly to customers.
Standard safety tools also remain in place, including time limits, deposit caps, and spending controls available across the platform.
