The Authority, Lithuania’s gambling regulator, fined Top Sport €15,000 after discovering that the operator’s betting app was automatically making bets without user agreement. When gamers shut their phones after placing bets on an Ezugi live roulette table, the software would repeat the bet without their knowledge, according to the report.
This automatic betting function, according to the Authority, breached Article 16, Parts 4 and 5 of the Lithuanian Gambling Law. Part 4 states that all gaming devices must meet the Authority’s requirements and be approved. Meanwhile, Part 5 says that gaming devices, including remote gaming devices, must have a certificate issued by approved organizations to confirm legal conformity.
In addition to the fine, Top Sport was warned that any subsequent violations or inability to correct the problem could result in the suspension of its license in Lithuania. The operator has until July 1st to comply with the regulations and correct the situation.
It is crucial to highlight that all Authority judgements are open to appeal, giving Top Sport the ability to dispute the ruling if necessary.
This latest punishment comes on the heels of another sanction levied by the Authority on Top Sport. The operator was fined €25,000 for admitting minors inside one of its slot salons. The Authority’s inquiry indicated that at least one kid, along with two other people, entered the facility and stayed for more than two hours. Top Sport was chastised by the Authority for failing to take appropriate steps to remove these individuals from company premises.
Top Sport has been told unequivocally that compliance with legislation is critical to its continued operation in Lithuania’s gambling sector. Failure to resolve the Authority’s concerns may have serious consequences for the operator. It remains to be seen how Top Sport will respond to the penalties and warnings, as well as if it will take the necessary steps to address the issues noted by the regulator.
The Lithuanian Authority’s measures demonstrate its commitment to protecting players’ interests and ensuring that operators adhere to strict rules. The Authority’s goal in implementing regulations is to ensure a fair and responsible gambling environment in the country.
